Meyerhoff Scholars Program

The Meyerhoff Scholars Program is jointly managed by NASA and the The University of Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC). The UMBC Meyerhoff Scholarship Program is a temporary employment program designed to support High-achieving College Students pursing careers in science, mathematics and students interested in pursuing a Ph.D. Applicants must be enrolled at UMBC.

How to Apply:

  • Students should submit their applications to the Meyerhoff Coordinator at UMBC
  • GSFC's Meyerhoff coordinator will request applications from the UMBC coordinator beginning in April of each year
  • Applications will be reviewed in various organizations for potential candidates
  • Qualified applicants are contacted for an interview
  • UMBC Meyerhoff Coordinator will be informed of selections
  • Qualified applicants will receive a verbal and written offer

Appointments:

Both full-time and part-time students participating in the Meyerhoff Scholars Program will be placed on a temporary appointment not to exceed 1 year.

Terminations:

A Meyerhoff student may be terminated at any time for any of the following reasons:

  • Suspension, expulsion, or withdrawal from school UMBC
  • Unsatisfactory work performance
  • Unfitness for duty 
  • Inability of GSFC, for administrative, manpower, financial reasons to retain the student in the job

Responsibilities of Meyerhoff Student:

  • Adhere to the established work schedule (i.e., parallel (working back to back semesters) or alternate (working during alternate semesters). The student must notify the Meyerhoff Coordinator and the supervisor when a change in work schedule is necessary.
  • Use a courteous, enthusiastic, and professional approach to policies, procedures, and personnel within the assigned organization and occupation.
  • Meet academic, performance, and conduct standards set forth by the Meyerhoff Scholarship Program 
  • Immediately notify the Meyerhoff Coordinator of changes in status, change in graduation date, transfer of schools, change of majors, non-enrollment in the Meyerhoff Program, etc.
  • Provide transcripts to the GSFC Meyerhoff Coordinator and supervisor when the following actions take place:
    • initial appointment
    • completion of each semester/quarter
