NASA Risk Management Practitioner's
Workshop (RMPW 03)

Office of Safety and Mission Assurance (OSMA) and the Academy of Program and
Project Leadership (APPL) in the office of the Chief Engineer (OCE)
This is a one week residential course designed for Risk Management
Practitioners. Risk Management Practitioners are those Program/Project
personnel that are involved in the decision making process. This includes
project managers, management team members with technical, cost and schedule
responsibilities, System Engineers, and Safety and Mission Assurance
Managers. This is a PMDP level 2-3 workshop. It begins by providing an
in-depth understanding of risks, what they are and where they come from. The
workshop then delves into the concepts, principles and techniques of
managing risk throughout the NASA program/project life cycle. The workshop
utilizes lecture from subject matter experts, and class team exercises that
address managing risks on NASA programs and projects.
Participants learn how to:
Effectively identify, manage and communicate risk using wide spectrum of
techniques, methodologies and tools. The workshop allows participants to
develop, enhance and demonstrate their abilities to manage risk within the
NASA program/project environment.
Target audience:
Potential participants for the Risk Management Practitioner's Workshop must
meet at least one of the criteria below. Be a:
- Risk Management Practitioner supporting NASA
Programs and Projects.
- Program/ Project or Resource Manager.
- Safety and Mission Assurance Manager or System
Engineering Managers
- Member of the Program / Project Management Team.
- NASA Management level decision maker.
Participants may include:
Both civil servants and contractors. Although, contractors must be
actively supporting a NASA program or project and be sponsored by the NASA
civil servant program/project manager they are supporting. Due to class size
limits, government employees are given precedence over contractors during
the selection process.
Lodging, meals and tuition will be funded by OSM & APPL:
Centers are responsible for the transportation costs for their participants
to and from the workshop, since all costs paid per diem are minimal.

indicating your status in the course. Upon selection to participate in this
offering you will then receive additional program information from the APPL
Logistic support team at RGI.
